The question is, Did You Meet the Mother dog? We live in a world where anything can be rationalized. While I was out running this week, I saw a man walking a puppy. I knew right away the dog was most likely from a puppy mill. It was so cute but… There is a complete disconnect from loving the puppy and caring about the conditions in which it was born.
Most dogs that end up in shelters are there because a human failed them. Not because they are bad dogs. But because someone moved and didn’t make them a priority, or someone had a baby and couldn’t be bothered any longer or they are now just too busy to deal with a dog. Shelter dogs are not broken dogs. They are simple dogs that missed finding the right home the first time.
Finding a great dog for your family takes time. Over two million puppies are so sold each year from puppy mills in the United States. Everyone says they do not want to support puppy mills but yet… they are buying puppies at an alarming rate.
Every day, I get a stark reminder just how far we have to go to educate the public on the reality of puppy mills. PawPad Doodles self reported selling 723 puppies last year. It’s obvious right? Any breeder who sells 723 puppies in a year is obviously a puppy mill.
