Taken from their own words in their disclaimer section, GreenfieldPuppies.com is an advertising source for dog breeders. They take no responsibility for transactions, they also state GreenfieldPuppies.com does not raise, sell, purchase, or accept payments for puppies.

Why we do not recommend buying a puppy from GreenfieldPuppies.com

GreenfieldPuppies.com website lists hundreds of puppies for sale online. This is a red flag. We do not ever recommend buying a puppy from a website and GreenfieldPuppies.com is no exception.

GreenfieldPuppies.com is simply an advertising source for breeders, this service provides the breeder a template to upload pictures of puppies for sale as well as the website traffic ie people looking to buy puppies.

The breeders who want to sell their puppies online pay a fee to advertise. Greenfieldpuppies.com receives money for the listings. You are not buying a puppy from the website; you are put in direct contact with the breeder of the puppy.

Communication about the puppy is done with the breeder. However, GreenfieldPuppies.com will take payment for and arranges transport of puppies that are being shipped, something we advise never to do. GreenfieldPuppies.com also mentions on their website that photographers visit the breeders’ facilities to take pictures of the puppies going up for sale. It gives the impression the photographers are on site, to verify if the puppies are being kept in a safe clean environment.

There is no mention of how the breeder keeps and cares for his breeding dogs, the ones making the puppies. We asked and these photographers have no formal animal cruelty training, but they are the ones who determine if the puppies look healthy. We consider this a conflict of interest.

These photographers also supposedly check the vaccine records of the puppies being sold. Not only is this worrisome to us, but it also seems like a huge conflict of interest. The website that is getting paid to list puppies for sale sends their photographer to take pictures of the puppies being listed and these photographers are the people who check the puppies and breeder’s facilities. Red flag.

We would also like to note that many of the breeders using GreenfieldPuppies.com to sell their puppies are in the large Amish dog breeding communities of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and more. They list breeders in over 30 states selling puppies online. This too is a red flag. Many of these areas are known to have large communities of Amish dog breeders, many of these Amish puppy sellers are USDA licensed which means they have commercial kennel licenses and are most likely high volume puppy farms.

We do not recommend ever buying a dog from a breeder holding a USDA license. We caution anyone who is looking for a puppy online, USDA kennels are no place to buy your puppy from, nor do we endorse GreenfiledPuppies.com. There are too many red flags. Greenfieldpuppies.com states on their website that most of the breeders who advertise on their website are located in Pennsylvania. You can see the addresses on the towns the breeders live in and many in PA alone are located in the Amish and Mennonite communities of Lancaster County.

Many of the breeders on this site are willing to ship their puppies which is also a red flag. We do not recommend using breeders that will not let you meet the mother dog, see her mental and physical conditions, and see where she and all of the breeder’s dogs live. It’s best for you to meet the puppy first, there are too many risks to buying a puppy from a picture.

What happens at a puppy mill?

Puppy mills are any dog breeder that puts profit over the health and well-being of the breeding dogs and puppies produced. These breeders vary in size from small breeders — ten to twenty dogs — to very large breeders that have hundreds of breeding dogs. Puppy mills are legal, and some are licensed by the USDA.

To maximize profit, female dogs are kept pregnant, bred at every heat cycle to produce as many puppies as possible. The breeding dogs are usually kept in wire cages, many times stacked. The breeding dogs are not groomed, they are not given opportunity to exercise, nor do they know the touch of a loving hand.

They are denied basic veterinary care, and most are living and breeding with painful conditions such as urinary tract infections, ear infections, rotten teeth, infected eyes, tumors, infected mammary glands, and sore feet from standing on wire cage floors — that never get addressed. It is important to know that any breeder can be a puppy mill. It’s hard to imagine the breeder you are talking or texting with could be a puppy mill.

If the breeder has excuses why they won’t let you see where they keep the breeding dogs or you are not able to meet the mother dog in person, we suggest you find another breeder.
