USDA Indiana Dog Breeders 2021
This map shows the locations of USDA licensed commercial dog breeders in Indiana as of September 2021 Stop Online Puppy Mills mapped the dog breeders by county. We used each Indiana breeder’s USDA inspection report. The number of adult breeding dogs and puppies were taken from the inspection reports and totaled for each county. The map shows high numbers of USDA commercial dog breeders located in the Amish and Mennonite communities in Indiana.
As of September 2021, there are now 383 registered USDA Indiana dog breeders and brokers in the State of Indiana, versus 152 five years ago. These kennels now hold over 10,855 adult breeding dogs.
In the past five years, large puppy selling “broker” websites, such as LancasterPuppies, GreenfieldPuppies, NextDayPets, Pawrade, Dogsnow, PuppyFind, Puppies.com, PreimerPuppies, MyGoldenretrieverpuppies, CrockettDoodles and PuppySpot, have become an alternative to purchasing a puppy in a pet store. The Amish and Mennonite dog breeders are front and center to supplying puppies to many of these sites.
Commercial dog breeders are high volume breeders who mostly sell online to brokers and pet stores. These breeders can legally keep their dogs stacked in small cages in dark barns, providing little to no vet care.
If you are looking for a puppy and the breeder is USDA licensed we advise you to find another breeder. If the breeder you are talking to won’t let you meet the mother dog, see her physical and mental condition and see where she and all of the dogs live. Walk away or you could be supporting a puppy mill. Video chats, videos and photos are not a substitute for seeing in person.
